Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
Threading through a broad and balanced curriculum that responds to the particular needs and life experiences of our pupils and community, is the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development.
Spiritual development:
The whole school community is encouraged to:
- Reflect on their own beliefs and values
- Show understanding and respect for other people’s faith and values
- Be curious and joyful about the world
- Use their imagination and creativity
- Reflect on these experiences
Moral Development:
- Recognise right from wrong and apply this to our choices
- Understand the consequences of our behaviour and actions
- Explore moral and ethical issues from different viewpoints
Social Development:
- Develop and use social skills in different situations
- Nurture pro-social skills by being Useful & Kind
- Engage with values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance (see British Values) to contribute positively as citizens and/or residents of the UK
Cultural Development:
- Recognise and value the cultural influences that have shaped our various heritages
- Celebrate the wide range of cultural backgrounds that make up our ‘Priory Family’
- Engage with and respond to artistic, musical, sporting and other cultural experiences
- Respond positively to our school’s multi-lingual identity
- Develop ‘Cultural Capital’ for our pupils and staff, through curricula and extra-curricular experiences
