5th May 2026 – Bank Holiday Fun
This weekend was great – we had an extra day off! Apparently that’s called a bank holiday and that is when the banks used to close so that their employees could have time off but now it’s just a holiday for lots of people because many businesses (and schools) close on those days. I really liked having the extra day – Sunday evening seemed different because I knew I didn’t have to get up for school on Monday morning. I had a lie-in on Monday, did some reading, played games with my family and we also went for a walk. We need more bank holidays. (Mr Walsh agrees with that!)
23rd March 2026 – Year 6 Mocks
Arghhh! This week has been intense. Year 6 had a ‘mock SATS’ week, which meant that we practised how it will be when we do our real tests in May. We had a nice relaxed breakfast every morning in class – that was great – then did a little practise for whatever subject we were tackling that day. Then we headed over to the hall, where we all sat at individual tables and worked in silence during timed tests. I really tried my best but I was VERY nervous. I’m keen to see what my results are like because Mrs Wakeling said that in her experience, most pupils get higher results in the real thing once they’ve had the practise week and got the nerves and anxiety out of the way.
26th February 2026 – PE OAA
PE in year 6 this term is OAA, which is outdoor adventure activities; this is seriously so much fun. We get to do treasure hunts and trust games. Sometimes it can be scarey but mostly it’s great because you are doing it with your friends. Plus you get to learn the compass points better and know your directions more, as well as developing your problem-solving skills. I would recommend everyone to do some OAA if they get the opportunity.
23rd February 2026 – SATS Club
SATS club over the holidays was really fun. We were at school when no-one else was! We had lots of time to focus on things were hard for us and really work out how to do them. We also had time to play on the playground with some special toys that Mrs Wakeling let us borrow – an archery set and a quoits set. It was exciting being in school when no other kids were there. I’d like to do it again during the Easter holidays because it was special for us and also super useful.
2nd February 2026 – Rocksteady
I want to use my blog time to tell you about Rock Steady. It’s an amazing club that runs every Thursday where you get to be part of a band. You can play bass guitar, electric guitar, drums, keyboard or sing and it is just SO MUCH FUN. I love it. We do all different kinds of songs and music and the time goes way too quick.
19th January 2026 – Film Club
Last week I went to film club after school. It was so exciting – we turned year 6 into a cinema; there were sofas and cushions and blankets everywhere to be comfortable on plus everyone had popcorn and hot chocolate to enjoy while watching the film. We watched ‘A Monster Calls’; a very scary as well as emotional film. People were crying at some points, even the adults. I can’t wait to see what the next film is next term…
5th January 2026 – Triple E Day
When we came back to school this week it was EEE day, which is always fun! In year 6, we wrote scripts and dressed up to act out the plays. The volume and clearness of our speaking improved through doing this, while we also enjoyed it. A great first day back.
7th November 2025 – German Pen-pals – Teacher visits us
Last week a teacher from our partner German school came to visit us; it was really exciting because she brought letters and some small presents from our penpals too. We all loved opening our letters plus the gifts were a big surprise. As we are writing to our penpals, we are getting to know them better and better now: what they like to eat, what their favourite colours are, which music they loke and many other things. I love having a penpal because it feels like I have a new friend.
6th October 2025 – German Pen-pals
Year 6 are so excited this week. We had a zoom meeting with our German partner school and some of us got to speak to our pen-pals! It was really exciting and also scary because we were actually speaking to them in German. Next week the people who didn’t talk will get the chance to say something to their pen-pals too. The good thing is we will already know our pen-pals before we go to Germany and meet them.
